Who are we?
We at Movemedical make the world’s best software solution for medical device companies.
We’re hiring a Senior Platform Engineer to own the infrastructure, tooling, and delivery systems that our engineering organization depends on. This is a high-impact, senior-level role where you will design cloud-native platforms, build and optimize delivery pipelines, and ensure our systems are observable, scalable, and cost-efficient, all in a domain that directly shapes how the platform performs and what we can deliver to customers.
We hire smart, tenacious people and give them the mentorship and opportunities they need to grow as team members and leaders. Our development process is built for remote teams and facilitates communication and trust. As a small company with big ambitions, we see and recognize the impact of every person on our team.
We are team-oriented and want each other to be successful; we pull together to accomplish our goals. Glassdoor gives us a 4.3/5.0 and Inc. put us on its Best Places to Work Editor's List in 2019.
Who are you?
You live at the intersection of software engineering and operations. You can write production-quality code, automate everything worth automating, and communicate complex infrastructure decisions clearly to a broad audience. More than any single technology, you think in systems, write things down, and make the teams around you more effective.
You take ownership of production cloud environments seriously, not just keeping the lights on, but understanding how services interact and where complexity, cost, and risk accumulate. You make deliberate trade-offs between hosting paradigms, design security boundaries that don’t sacrifice developer velocity, and think beyond individual services to reason about failure modes, blast radius, and graceful degradation. When something breaks in production, you diagnose it thoroughly and make sure the team learns from it.
You write clearly and often. You maintain architectural decision records, runbooks, and post-mortems not because it’s required but because you know documentation is a force multiplier. You can present a technical proposal to an engineer or a post-incident review to a non-technical stakeholder and build trust in both rooms. You use AI-assisted tooling as a genuine productivity multiplier from infrastructure authoring to troubleshooting, and you actively incorporate it into how you work.
What will you do?
Design, build, and maintain internal platforms and developer tooling that accelerate delivery and reduce operational toil across the engineering organization
Codify infrastructure using declarative, version-controlled approaches that emphasize consistency, repeatability, and auditability
Build self-service capabilities that allow product teams to provision infrastructure, deploy services, and manage configurations without bottlenecks or tribal knowledge
Own the architecture of production cloud environments with a focus on understanding how services interact and where complexity, cost, and risk accumulate
Make deliberate trade-off decisions between hosting paradigms — serverless, containerized, VM-based — grounded in workload characteristics, operational cost, and team capability
Design networking, access control, and security boundaries that balance developer velocity with least-privilege principles
Design and maintain delivery pipelines that are fast, safe, and understandable — not just functional but documented and easy for other engineers to extend
Implement deployment strategies that minimize risk during releases and make rollback a confident, well-practiced operation
Instrument systems with logging, telemetry, and metrics to provide meaningful visibility into platform health — focusing on actionable signals over noise
Conduct thorough root cause analysis on production incidents and translate findings into corrective fixes, improved processes, and shared learning
Build and maintain alerting strategies and runbooks that enable fast, effective incident response and reduce mean time to resolution
Write clearly and often — maintain architectural decision records, runbooks, post-mortems, and onboarding documentation that reduce knowledge silos
Collaborate cross-functionally with product engineering, security, and leadership to align platform investments with business objectives
Mentor and support engineers across the organization by sharing context, reviewing designs, and helping teams make informed infrastructure decisions
What skills and experience do we expect you to have?
5+ years of professional experience in platform engineering, DevOps, site reliability engineering, or infrastructure-focused software engineering roles.
Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure on at least one major provider (AWS preferred), including how core compute, networking, storage, and identity services interact
Hands-on experience codifying infrastructure using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, Pulumi, or equivalent
Proven experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation at scale
Proficiency in at least one systems or scripting language (Python, Go, Bash, TypeScript, or similar)
Solid grasp of Linux fundamentals, networking concepts, DNS, load balancing, and TLS/SSL
Experience with containerized workloads and orchestration in production environments
Excellent written and verbal communication skills — you default to writing things down and actively contribute to a culture of documentation and knowledge sharing
Proficiency with LLM-based developer tooling (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude) — you view AI-assisted development as a practical multiplier and actively incorporate it into your workflow
Nice-to-haves:
Experience building and maintaining observability stacks including dashboards, alerting, and on-call workflows
Production experience with relational databases including replication, failover, query performance, and connection pooling
Familiarity with event-driven and message-based architectures
Experience with cloud security practices including secrets management, network segmentation, and compliance frameworks
Exposure to cost optimization strategies and FinOps thinking
Experience building internal developer platforms or approaching platform work with a product mindset
Relevant cloud or infrastructure certifications are a plus but not required
